Pirates!

We've been studying pirates the last few weeks in homeschool. We've had a lot of fun with it! I found some great resources online and got several good books from the library. We've incorporated pirates into everything and it's amazing how much more fun "pirate math" is than regular math! The kids think it's terribly hard to figure out how much 7 + 3 is. But if you tell them Captain Curlytoes has 7 pieces of gold and he takes 3 more pieces from Ol' Patch Eye, they don't have much trouble figuring out that Cap'n now has 10. We put together a lapbook incorporating much of what we learned about the pirates. This picture is of Kathleen putting on the finishing touches.
